Chewing, Chasing and Climbing

This past week has been some firsts for Kevin.

  • His first tooth broke through yesterday, 10 months to the day since his birth. Merri will probably post a picture somtime soon.

  • When Kevin is crawling around on the floor, and we (especially daddy) start to chase him, he'll turn around and start crawling away in fits of giggling. He's too slow to avoid capture for long, but being caught is fun, too, since he's met with hugs, tickling and laughing.

  • Two weeks ago, Kevin rounded the corner while dad wasn't watching, and started climbing up the stairs. He didn't get very far (maybe a step or two) before tumbling back down. Judging from his calm-down time, it didn't hurt too much. This week, he started to climb up again, but we noticed his efforts in time to supervise him. With support and encouragement from his parents, he climbed all the way to the top. He seemed to get tired a couple of times along the way, then frustrated three stairs from the top. After we put cheerios on the last three steps, however, he forgot his fatigue and finished the climb quickly. Oddly, once he was upstairs, he wanted to continue exploring rather than eat the spoils of conquest. Today he made his second stair ascent, with only Mommy encouraging him. He's not ready for unsupervised climbs, yet, but pretty soon the whole house will be within his ken.
