Top 10 Rygg Family Memories of 2009
Number 10 We started this year out running. Well, Kevin started walking on his own in January. Besides learning to run, he has also learned a lot of new words. His favorite thing to say these days is, “Chase? Daddy, chase?”
Number 9 Kevin went into nursery and made a great transition. He had a few rough days, but he loves his teachers and all his friends there. Merri got to go back to Primary to lead the kids in singing. Ellis gets to keep doing what he loves working as the financial clerk of our ward.
Number 8 Kevin was really attached to his binky for sleep time. Slowly he adjusted to the lack of it. The hardest time was when he was sick and would ask for it. Now it’s just a fond memory.
Number 7 We got to visit two temple open houses this year. What beautiful places they are. We all enjoyed spending some time with Kevin’s Aunt Becky at the Oquirrh Mountain Temple.
Number 6 Kevin slept in a tent for the first time when we went to the Pratt Family Reunion. He’s a natural! We didn’t have much trouble with him at all. Swimming was a new thing for him there as well. He acted like a fish in the water. We also spent some more time hiking this year and enjoyed his excitement. Just like his parents!
Number 5 This year Kevin got to meet 5 new cousins: Twin boys in Merri’s family, then Ellis’ 2 brothers each had a little girl born in their families. And just recently there is another little girl born on the Johnston side. It was fun to meet them all and watch them grow this year.
Number 4 We had a fun time this Halloween. We borrowed some lederhosen from Aunt Jenni and Uncle Kent that fit Kevin just right. We wanted to use those, and we came up with Pinocchio as a possibility. We borrowed some other German clothes for both Ellis and Merri to wear, but finding a way to keep a Pinocchio nose on Kevin proved to be the hard part. After trying several things, a cardboard nose stayed on with a little scotch tape! He was a hit at the ward Halloween Party and even won a prize.
Number 3 We were lucky enough to have several people come stay at our house this year. In April we got to host Ellis’ Grandma Cook for a few days. We loved having her here and Kevin was reminded of the fun he had when we visited her last year. Kevin’s Uncle John also visited in April. We always have a great time with him. He was good to read to Kevin and by so doing won Kevin over once again. Then in October, Aunt Wendi and her daughter Alice came to visit, and Kevin got to meet them and warmed up to them pretty quick. It was nice to spend a little time with them since we haven’t seen them for a long time.
Number 2 Kevin is lucky to have 5 grandparents and really loves to spend time with them. Grandma Johnston lives close by, so whenever someone’s at the door, Kevin guesses that it’s Grandma (Ama). He gets so excited! Grandma and Grandpa Rygg and Great Grandma Rygg live in St. George, so we don’t see them as often, but it doesn’t take long for Kevin to remember how much he loves them. In September, we went to Las Vegas to visit Kevin’s new little cousin, and his Great Grandma entertained him very well. She has a special connection with him. And Grandma and Grandpa spent lots of time with him then and at Thanksgiving in St. George and for his 2nd birthday. What great family we have!
And Finally. . . Number One If all goes well, Kevin will be a big brother by next June. Merri heard the heartbeat in November and again last week. What a beautiful sound! We are very excited!
